Project Background
A high-performance electric motorcycle manufacturer was looking for a lightweight fastening solution to replace selected conventional steel bolts. The main objective was to reduce unnecessary weight while maintaining the mechanical performance, dimensional accuracy, and durability required for demanding motorcycle applications. The motorcycle would be used in environments involving vibration, repeated mechanical loading, moisture, and off-road conditions. Therefore, the project required more than simply replacing steel with titanium. The fastener material, dimensions, thread accuracy, machining quality, and application conditions all needed to be considered together.

Engineering Challenge:
The customer needed titanium fasteners that could directly replace selected steel components without affecting the original assembly structure.
Different fastening locations had different dimensional and mechanical requirements. Some required specific head geometries, while others required customized lengths or thread specifications. This meant that a standard off-the-shelf bolt could not satisfy the entire project. Another consideration was titanium's machining behavior. Compared with conventional steel, titanium requires appropriate machining parameters and process control to achieve stable dimensions and good thread quality.
For this reason, NAVI Titanium first reviewed the customer's drawings and application requirements before confirming the production solution.
Material Selection
Titanium material was selected based on the requirements of each fastening location. NAVI Titanium can provide a range of commercially pure titanium and titanium alloy grades for customized fasteners.

Specialized applications |
For high-performance motorcycle components where mechanical strength is a major consideration, Grade 5 titanium alloy is commonly selected. However, the final material grade should be determined according to the actual load, installation position, thread design, and customer specifications.
Customized Fastener Design
The customer provided drawings and dimensional requirements for the required fasteners. NAVI Titanium reviewed key dimensions before machining, including thread specifications, bolt length, head geometry, tolerance requirements, and surface finish.

This drawing-based approach allows the fasteners to be manufactured according to the customer's actual assembly requirements rather than relying solely on standard dimensions.
CNC Machining and Production
After the specifications were confirmed, the titanium bolts were manufactured using precision CNC machining. The machining process focused on maintaining dimensional consistency, particularly around the threaded section and bolt head. Appropriate cutting parameters and tooling were selected according to the titanium grade and component geometry. For customized motorcycle fasteners, production control is particularly important because the components may need to fit directly into existing assemblies without additional modification.

Quality Inspection
After machining, key dimensions and product appearance are inspected according to the approved drawings or specifications. Particular attention is given to thread dimensions, overall length, head dimensions, surface condition, and other critical characteristics identified by the customer. For production projects, material documentation and inspection records can also be provided according to the customer's requirements.
