NAVI Titanium recently completed a prototype order for customized sintered stainless steel discs for a customer's equipment development project. The customer was developing a prototype and required a small quantity of porous metal components for the initial development stage. The requested component was the sintered stainless steel disc itself, which would be incorporated into the customer's own equipment. As this was a customized project, the initial communication focused on understanding the customer's requirements, confirming the product scope and providing the necessary information before production. After the product details were confirmed, NAVI Titanium proceeded with the order according to the agreed requirements.

Customer Requirements

The customer provided the main requirements for the porous metal component during the initial communication. The confirmed product specifications included:

Product: Sintered Stainless Steel Disc

Material: Stainless Steel

Shape: Disc

Diameter: 180 mm

Nominal Pore Size: 10 μm

Quantity: 2 Pieces

Project Stage: Prototype Development

The customer required two pieces for the initial prototype stage. The order covered the sintered stainless steel discs as individual porous metal components, based on the product configuration discussed during the inquiry.

Understanding the Customer's Prototype Requirements

After receiving the initial inquiry, NAVI Titanium reviewed the customer's request and communicated with the customer to clarify the product requirements and scope of supply. For a customized porous metal component, establishing the product requirements clearly at the beginning helps both sides maintain the same understanding throughout the project. The discussion therefore focused on the requested component, its intended integration into the customer's equipment and the information needed for product selection.

NAVI Titanium also reviewed the customer's requirements together with the available sintered metal product options and prepared the relevant product information for the next stage of communication. This initial discussion established a clear basis for the subsequent technical communication and product confirmation.

Providing Product Specifications for Reference

Sintered Stainless Steel Disc Specification | NAVI Titanium

To support the customer's evaluation, NAVI Titanium provided a product specification sheet containing relevant information about sintered stainless steel porous components. The specification sheet gave the customer a clearer understanding of the available product configurations and technical parameters. Information such as material, pore size, product dimensions and other characteristics can be important when selecting a porous metal component for a prototype. For a development project, the customer needs to determine whether the selected component can be incorporated into the intended equipment design. Providing the relevant specifications at this stage allows both sides to discuss the product based on technical information rather than relying only on a general product description. After reviewing the specification information, the customer continued the discussion with NAVI Titanium regarding the specific disc required for the project.

Confirming the Sintered Stainless Steel Disc

Following the initial technical discussion, the product configuration was further confirmed according to the customer's requirements.

The final specification was a 180 mm diameter sintered stainless steel disc with a nominal pore size of 10 μm. The material, shape, dimensions and pore specification were confirmed as part of the order requirements.

The scope of supply was also clearly confirmed during the communication. NAVI Titanium was responsible for providing the sintered stainless steel disc as an individual porous metal component, based on the specifications agreed with the customer.

This specification confirmation helped ensure that both sides had a clear understanding of the product before production. It also provided a clear reference for the subsequent Proforma Invoice, manufacturing and delivery process.

Confirming the Sintered Stainless Steel Disc

Once the product specifications had been discussed, NAVI Titanium prepared the Proforma Invoice for the customer's final confirmation.

The PI included the product image and main specifications, providing a clear reference for the customer to check the requested product and order details before production. This also helped both sides maintain a clear understanding of the product configuration and scope of supply.

The customer reviewed the product configuration, including the 180 mm diameter, 10 μm nominal pore size, stainless steel material and disc shape, and confirmed that the product information matched the requirements discussed during the technical communication.

After receiving the customer's confirmation, NAVI Titanium proceeded with the production of the two customized sintered stainless steel discs.

The confirmed PI and product specifications were used as the reference for the subsequent manufacturing process, from production preparation to the final product inspection before shipment.

Manufacturing and Shipping the Customized Porous Metal Disc

Production

The confirmed product was manufactured as a sintered stainless steel disc with the required dimensions and porous structure.

Sintered porous metal is produced by processing metal powder and bonding the particles together through sintering while retaining interconnected pores within the material. These pores form the functional structure that allows gas or liquid to pass through the component.

For this project, the porous material was formed into a disc configuration suitable for the customer's prototype requirements.

The combination of a rigid stainless steel structure and interconnected pores makes sintered metal suitable for applications involving filtration, gas diffusion and fluid distribution.

Inspection, Packaging and Delivery

After manufacturing, the finished discs were inspected before shipment to check their general condition and conformity with the confirmed product requirements.

Because the products were customized porous metal components, appropriate packaging was used to help protect the discs during transportation. Protective materials were applied to reduce the possibility of scratches, collision, deformation or contamination during delivery.

The two finished discs were then prepared for shipment to the customer, completing the prototype order.

Supporting Prototype Development

Although this project involved only two pieces, it represents a typical requirement during the early stage of industrial product development.

Prototype customers may first need a small quantity of customized components to evaluate their equipment design before moving toward larger quantities. At this stage, clear technical communication and accurate product specification confirmation can be just as important as the manufacturing process itself.

From providing the initial specification sheet and discussing the customer's requirements to confirming the final product through the Proforma Invoice, NAVI Titanium worked with the customer to define the required porous metal component before production.

This project also demonstrates the flexibility of sintered stainless steel products. In addition to discs, porous metal components can be manufactured in forms such as tubes, plates, cups and other customized configurations according to application and equipment requirements.

NAVI Titanium supports prototype development, small-quantity orders and customized production of sintered porous metal components for filtration, gas diffusion, aeration and other industrial applications.
